About Croydon, the primary retail and service centre near Surrey PC Support
Croydon is located only 10 miles south from the City of London and is considered to be part of the Greater London area.
The A23 runs north into the City and south before becoming the M23 as it heads towards Brighton on the south coast. Croydon also has
three railways stations. The largets, East Croydon is located on the London and Croydon Railway. The other two stations are West
Croydon and South Croydon. There is also a station in Purley.
During the Second World War Croydon was heavily bombed during the air raids and over 5000 people were killed and
60,000 houses were damaged. In 1940 Croydon Airport, at the time being used for fighter aircraft, was bombed by a dozen German bombers.
The bombing raid also destroyed the parachute factory located next to the airport.
Since the second world war much of the manufacturing industries that previously existed in Croydon have been replaced
by retail and service industries. Croydon now offers several large shopping centers and numerous bars and restaurants. Croydon also
has a museum, library, cinema, theatres and other arts venues.
Croydon has been the largest postcode area in the UK in terms of property transactions since 2000 and is part of the
London commuter belt. It has road and rail links into London and has seen fast growth in population since the 1950s. The population
in central Croydon alone (CR0) is approximately 137,000.
Because of Croydon's size it is one of the primary areas of business for Surrey PC Support. We have many customers in
Croydon and the surrounding areas such as Purley, Sanderstead and Coulsdon. The fact that Croydon is such a lively commercial area
means there is plenty of competition for us. This is good for our customers because it ensures we strive to provide services with the
best possible quality and value. This is vital for a company of our size which relies heavily on repeat business.
